Fırat University State Conservatory was established by the decision of the Republic of Turkey Higher Education Council dated 08.05.1997 and numbered B.30.0.EÖB.0.00.00.03-06.04 864. The first department opened, Turkish Music Basic Sciences Department, started education and training in 2001-2002 by admitting 20 students.

The name of the department was changed to Basic Sciences by the Higher Education Executive Board dated 07/01/2009. With this decision, within the Department of Basic Sciences; Turkish Folk Music Department and Turkish Art Music Department were established.

Again, with the decision of the Higher Education Executive Board dated 12/08/2009, the Folk Dance Department was opened within our Conservatory and thus the number of departments increased to two. However, lack of a suitable building, lack of teaching staff, etc. Due to issues such as this, students have not been admitted to this department yet, and therefore education has not started.

At the 11.03.2020 Higher Education Executive Board meeting, the name of Basic Sciences was changed to Turkish Music Program.
